The School of Shamanic Midwifery (SSM) is a Women’s Mysteries School for midwives and doulas, a gathering of wise women, a year long Earth based ‘religious’ experience. It will awaken in you a deeper connection to the cycles - the way of life - and enable in you a range of ancient and traditional skills and tools to serve women and the birth process. The School of Shamanic Midwifery is based in Australia and is given and co-ordinated by Jane Hardwicke Collings, Homebirth Midwife, Mother, Grandmother. Jane has apprenticed with many great teachers – Maggie Lecky Thompson, Blackbear James Harvey and the late Jeannine Parvati Baker. She brings the experience of 25 years of homebirths and shamanic practice together and, as requested, presents what she has learnt and commits to helping facilitate those who are interested on their journey toward being Shamanic Midwives.

Opening Gathering 4SJ13

a group of women gathered under the gibbous moon, half way between Beltane and Litha/Summer Solstice, and with that energy swirling in and around them, found a safe place to be fully with the creative act and all it can teach one about oneself and the way of things, and made a medicine drum

How fortunate were we!
Here is just a taste of what James offered us:

The Cosmic Egg Exercise

Tonal / Nagual - Background information

Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus

So deeply did we travel with James, to places of magic and mystery, to places beyond and to places deeply within.  We drummed, we were drummed and toned and didjeridoo'ed!

"Hearty thanks for your email and for our amazing weekend.

Still riding the waves of bliss from being away with you all."  Anna Foletta

"I want to specially acknowledge and thank Jane for all her excellent work and for asking me to attend your circle in the Red Tent. Inspired and pragmatic as always she leads the way in opening doors and granting permission for everyone to be as big and powerful as they can imagine. Blessed Be."

BirthKeeper Intensive (BKI) Workshop

With the First Quarter Moon
we held the BirthKeeper Intensive (BKI) Workshop in Sydney
This was the second one for the year

Its a beautiful gathering of birthworkers, contemplating what it means to be a BIRTHKEEPER, a term coined by Jeannine Parvati Baker. When JPB brought this term to us she said it was a combination of Earth Keeper and Birth Worker, meaning a birth activist and keeper of the sacred wisdom of birth.

One of the important things we do in the BKI is to bring awareness to any unconscious agendas we bring to our work. This level of self awareness is what helps the BirthKeeper be what is called in shamanic terms the 'hollow bone', the clear vessel through which the universal energy can flow.

We let go of fears with a Fire Ritual, calling the Fire Goddess Brigid to be with us.
And go on a shamanic journey to meet our Power Animals for our role as BirthKeeper.

As always it was a circle of deep and vast woman's wisdom. Thanks to the women who came along.

Love,  Jane

"The course was great, and I really enjoyed it. I really loved connecting to my power animal and have really taken it on to learn more about her and her medicine. Thanks again for running the workshop and being so committed to your work.  It is a blessing to have someone further pave the way and open the path wider for others to follow and I appreciate it."

Singing The Self : The First Deepening

I have a small Goddess Altar on the shelf in my roll-top desk on which sits my most inspiring objects. Those that symbolise Feminine power. There, my Lapis Lazuli Quan Yin necklace talisman lies. Every day, or when I want to feel connected to my true voice and my creative flow, I light the candle that holds the Flames of Avalon,  Brighid from Kildare, Ireland, the Gaian Flame of Australia and the World Peace flame, and I put on that necklace. Through it, I feel connected to all that is woman and all that we dreamed, shared and sang that weekend of our deepening.  It inspires me to write and to move through the blockages when the words don't come, to sing to speak and to know I am supported and surrounded by the love and power of women committed to their own transformation, acknowledgement of their womanhood through attunement to the cycles, and the transformation that will bring to our world.
Thank you for being you and for all that you have given me.
Ganga Karen Ashworth

"One of the most powerful parts of the weekend for me was speaking and
singing from my feminine power centre. From my power within. This is something I take with me and use whenever I need it. I love being about to shift my energy and speak from this place of such gentle strength and wisdom. I know how to shift my breath to my centre and feel the 'buzzing' within me when I choose to speak from here. Over the past couple of months I have used it in all sorts of situations. Like countless meetings speaking my truth and negotiating difficulties with my son at school, in speaking with other women about tricky subjects or just being with my children in everyday life! It is such a gift to me and I thank you so much for showing me the pathway. That weekend was a huge step in my transformation in supporting me to step into the world and share my own inner wisdom.”
Susan

"I was so looking forward to the first Deepening with Ganga Ashworth. I have been to many ╩╗pregnancy, the inner journey╩╝ workshops with Jane Hardwicke Collings, where Ganga has come and given a voice session. The first time I sat with Ganga, I was reminded how much I love singing, and her voice is so amazing, it goes straight to my heart and connects me with deep emotions. I love to sing with her. So, that is what I was thinking about heading to the Deepening, not really about the deeper work that would occur.  A deepening it was! What I came away with was a major piece of information, that so clearly brought together the connection between my rites of passage╩╝, and a map I was still following. An out dated one! And we had many wonderful circles of voice and song which I truly loved. As an apprentice I found it incredibly valuable to be in circle without holding the apprentice energy, and all that requires. I could be with myself and all that was arising, which is necessary, to then be available to facilitate the same journey for others.  I have gone on to have a private session with Ganga, and will go again!  Thank you Ganga, and thank you Jane for bringing her to us."
